Detective Andrew Bershad (Retired) was a member of the New York City Police Department’s elite Emergency Service Unit (ESU). He has over thirty years of experience in the field of emergency medical services. During his tenure, he was one of less than a dozen ESU Tactical Medical Team members in the NYPD and served as a Team Leader.
Bershad is a NYS REMAC and National Registry certified paramedic and a New York State Department of Health, Bureau of EMS Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC). He served as an instructor at the NYPD’s Special Operations Bureau, Medical Training Division, where he taught other members of ESU. Bershad is a recognized expert in tactical law enforcement and tactical medical operations and instructs law enforcement agencies nationwide on those topics.
In addition, Bershad was a member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) New York Urban Search and Rescue Task Force (NYTF-1) and in that capacity deployed to natural disasters both nationally and internationally.
